In the BioGascleaners the H2S is removed from the biogas in a biological process. The sulphur oxidation bacteria need the following:
- Place to live and multiply => On a packed media inside a closed acid-proof tank
- Sulphur => The H2S containing biogas
- Oxygen => Supply of atmospheric air
- Moisture => Water or gas condensate
- Nutrients => Liquid NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) or treated effluent
- Temperature => Above 25ºC
The only residual product from the biological process is a liquid sulphate solution. This is normally mixed with the treated effluent or biomass from the biogas digesters and recycled to the fields as valuable S-fertilizer.
